It’s essential to properly care for fresh sod to ensure it thrives. Fresh sod follows a different set of rules than traditional lawn care maintenance. The most important thing is to avoid mowing or playing on the fresh sod for a while. Some of the most important tips to care for your fresh sod include the following:

Week One

  • Don’t allow the sod to dry out, but avoid overwatering it by watering it three to four times a day.
  • It’s best not to water the sod in the evening. Water the sod before sundown. Avoid overwatering your sod, but be sure you don’t allow the sod to dry out. You’ll want to water your sod three or four times a day for five to ten minutes at a time.
  • Avoid walking on the sod for at least two weeks. Playing or walling on the sod can cause growth issues.

Week Two

Week Three & Beyond
